Harden's says

Having been in E1 for yonks, Cyrus & Pervin Todiwala upped sticks in 2021 to reopen in the docks, complete with a spangly new site and attached cookery school.

A “wonderful restaurant, run by great people for nearly 30 years!” – Cyrus & Pervin Todiwala retain a mega-loyal fan club, who have followed them from their old site in E1 to this new distant unit on the Royal Docks (which they moved to in 2022). The draw is “just the most creative food”“outstanding” cooking that’s “not Indian as you know it” but “with a Portuguese influence” – all delivered by “the nicest team” in a setting with views over the water. Even those who feel it’s “not a great location, being a long way out of town” say “oh the food! it’s well worth the journey!” Top Menu Tip – “be adventurous, the chutneys are unbelievable, the mains mouthwatering. You must try the Roast Chicken Cafreal Zambeziana and the beetroot and coconut samosa”.

“Shame it’s now so out-of-the-way, but well worth a visit” – after 26 years on the fringe of the City, Cyrus & Pervin Todiwala relocated their famous Indian venue to this new unit on the Royal Docks in 2022. It’s a “light and airy setting” (not far from London Excel and City Airport) with bright views over the water and docks. “Cyrus continues to evolve his dishes, for all occasions”, and “the Todiwalas are excellent hosts too”: “staff are so passionate and personal to all who come and dine” on the “wonderful Indian food with a Portuguese twist”.

“Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala have done it again, with the new incarnation of their bastion of Indian and Parsee food”, on the Royal Docks “just moments from London Excel and City Airport”. “After 26 years, they moved from the fringe of the City in E1 to Royal Albert Wharf E16” and “the food and the personal service remain of the highest nature”. “It’s just such original and delicious cuisine”, “especially on nights when Cyrus cooks Parsee (but it’s always good anyway)”. Unless you happen to live out that way, though, the new spot could be mistaken for “the middle of nowhere”: “we travel over two hours to dine here: the new menu is delicious, the themed evenings a joy… but I wish they were back in Prescott Street!”.

“New venue, same great flavours and hospitality” – Cyrus and Parvin Todiwala score a major thumbs up for their new “Indian paradise”, which, in early 2022, relocated from their age-old location (on the grungy fringes of the City), to this “new site in a fabulous spot on the Royal Docks, and right on the River Thames too, giving you amazing views back up the river past City Airport to Canary Wharf” (nearest DLR, Gallions Reach). The menu is in a new format too – focused more on small plates and designed for sharing – and delivers “Indian dishes often with a Portuguese twist that are excellent”. A “genuine welcome” is also part of the attraction, and – having been greeted – a well-stocked cocktail bar is another new addition that will help you recover from the schlep to get there…

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"Absolutely excellent Indian from a master - Cyrus Todiwalla - one of the best in London if you can make the hike out beyond docklands. It’s absolutely worth it for the delicate Parsi standouts and the classics with a twist, all done perfectly."

"This is outstanding Indian food. Unfortunately the night we went was very quiet and lacked much atmosphere. The restaurant is in an out of the way location"
