“Having walked by it for years, I’m sorry I’ve not started eating here a long time ago!”“A fabulous waterside location in the swanky development around historic St Katherine Dock” sets the scene at Livebait and Real Greek founder, Theodore Kyriakou’s latest venture, now over five years old. “A small restaurant, it focuses on seafood brought fresh from the coast each day; and there is a lovely buzz about the place, not least because of the charming owner who clearly has a passion for hospitality” and sets up a “warm, inviting atmosphere”. “Affordable by London standards”, it provided some diners with their best meal of the year: “fresh, quality seafood” provided by “chefs with a high level of skills”. “Well worth seeking out!” Top Menu Tips – “octopus butter is insanely good, as is the crab risotto”; and they do an “exemplary blue cheese ice cream”.

This “relaxed” and “rather good” seafood specialist is “one of the best offerings in St Katharine Dock”, offering a “delightful menu”“we had cod cheeks and ravioli, oysters, brill and octopus followed by different and interesting ice creams” – alongside a “decent selection of Greek white wine”. Co-founder Theodore Kyriakou was behind Livebait and The Real Greek in the ’90s.

“Consistently delicious seafood” and a “lovely location” by St Katharine Dock have put this three-year-old securely on the map. The interesting wine list is strong on “Greek offerings” – thanks no doubt to co-founder Theodore Kyriakou, a veteran of Livebait and The Real Greek in the ’90s. Top Tip – “go on Wednesdays for the half-price wine”.

“Small and perfectly formed” two-year-old with a “wonderful waterside setting” in St Katharine Dock that serves “seafood that should appear on the end of Paul Whitehouse’s rod – it’s that fresh!”. “On a sunny day with an outdoor table, it’s the best” – the “fantastic shellfish” includes “the best langoustines ever and stellar scallops”. Theodore Kyriakou, who set up both Livebait and The Real Greek back in the 1990s, is part of the founding team.

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
