A 500-year-old Highgate pub relaunched by Heath Ball, landlord of the nearby Red Lion & Sun (see also), offering all-day breakfasts, a biodynamic wine list, frozen margaritas on tap, batched Negronis, and Champagne served in wine glasses ‘because it tastes better that way’. Its profile received a major boost from Giles Coren of The Times in his April 2025 review, who awarded it a ‘perfect 10’ (“We may never bother to go home again”).

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
