Harden's says
On the site that was for Yonks Adam’s Café, a new Italian in ever-gentrifying Askew Village.
Harden's survey result
Summary
“An unusual level of excellence for the unglamorous Askew Road” – this “local favourite with an ambitious glint in its eye” turns out “beautiful food from a monthly changing menu in a small bistro-style space”; and was responsible for a number of Hammersmith residents’ best meals of the year. It’s on a site that for decades was Adams (RIP) – “I was sad to see the owners of Adams retire but it was a delight to find Giulia Quaglia open up this stunning Italian restaurant in what is now called Askew Village”, serving “wonderful food” cooked by her partner, Endris Kerbisi (the couple met when working together at the Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge). Top Menu Tip – “the octopus starter is a real joy”.
Summary
“A reminder of how good Italian cooking can be” is to be found at Giulia Quaglia’s neighbourhood two-year-old in ever-posher ‘Askew Village’, which offers a short menu of three-four options for each course (including ‘primi’). “Even the bread is exceptional” and even those who consider it “expensive for Shepherd’s Bush” say “you won’t be disappointed”.
Summary
On the site that was for aeons the locally loved Adam’s Café (RIP), this “relative newcomer” in ‘Askew Village’ “hits the right notes” as a replacement. It “still feels a bit like a café inside”, but is warmed up by the personable service, who provide a “short but interesting menu of Italian dishes” including “delicious homemade pasta”; and other “well cooked, prettily presented food”.
Summary
“Replacing the much-loved Adams Cafe” is no easy task, but this “new family-run Italian” in up-and-coming ‘Askew Village’ is “a local winner” on all accounts. “The small team provides a short, straightforward menu (pasta is homemade and delicious) and the brief wine list hits the right notes”.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
