“A staple in the area for vegetarian and vegan options” run by Roya Bishop, who honed her knowledge of Gujarati cuisine at Leeds icon Hansa’s (RIP); finessed her flair alongside no less than Sat Bains; and then struck out on her own here in 2010. The “incredibly creative” food picks and mixes influences from right around the world – Cuba, Persia, Sri Lanka – and the results are “always delicious”.

“Repeatedly superb, inventive cookery” (“not only the sole vegetarian restaurant I frequent, but one of the best restaurants I know”) has made the name of this sophisticated venue, whose owner Roya Bishop honed her skills at sadly shuttered Leeds veggie icon Hansa’s, as well as alongside Sat Bains. The classy food takes its cues from across the world, Lebanese and Japanese dishes sitting alongside “truly knockout Sri Lankan” choices too.

“Amazingly creative vegan and vegetarian food” continues to win raves for this fixture by chef Roya Bishop, who did time at Hansa’s restaurant in Leeds, before finessing her style alongside Michelin-starred chef Sat Bains; the food is so “deeply satisfying” that even non-veggies “never fail to be stunned” by a visit.

This “brilliant vegetarian place” from ex-Sat Bains chef Roya Bishop is “always popular, so book in advance”. “Every dish is exotic and exciting” as she looks to cuisines around the world for ideas. “A committed carnivore, I’m always heartily impressed by the vegetarian cooking here. Deciding what to order can be rather like Sophie’s Choice!”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
