“If you want fab cooking in a country inn 10 minutes drive from central Bath, then you won’t be disappointed” say fans of this “lovely and friendly” stone-built pub complete with “cosy pub lounge and pretty garden”: “a hidden gem in the area”. “The menu combines really well-done pub classics alongside some fine dining options (for example a delicious cheese soufflé)”, although a recurrent theme is quantity (“all good… just too much!”). Top Menu Tip – “try the extensive homemade ice creams and sorbets, all delicious: malted milk, Rolo, hokey pokey all were stand outs. An intriguing one was the Fisherman’s Friend ice cream: chef gave us a taster, it actually worked although you wouldn’t want much of it…”

“Gosh the food is good here, only ten minutes drive out of Bath, you are in the heart of the countryside but with some of the best cooking in the area: the flavours and quality of cooking are just excellent”. A stone-built pub opposite the church, it also has “a pretty garden to sit in and enjoy”. There is a selection of posh pub classics on the menu but more representative are dishes like ‘Twice-baked cheese soufflé’ or ‘Isle of Gigha halibut, dill pomme dauphine’. Top Menu Tip – “lobster ravioli is truly delicious as is Paris-Brest with strawberry cream”.

For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
